The battle starts moving to New York, as the principal New York lawyer involved in the affair sues both Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, the disgraced sports financier; and his crooked right hand, the forger Hamad al-Haroun wanted pursuant to multiple INTERPOL warrants, starts proceedings in Federal District Court in New York. These proceedings are brought under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act (RICO), the notorious US federal statute designed to punish organised criminals.

RICO complaints involve triple-damages, a jury trial, and the possibility of a referral to the Department of Justice for criminal inquiries and prosecution, and for other measures related to the seizure of unlawfully gained money.
